AU Deals: From Footy Sims to Final Fantasy, Today's Most Wallet-Friendly Wins

Another week, another digital trolley overloaded with titles that deserve better than the shame pile I'm sure to heave them onto. This crop feels more special than usual, though, because it's stacked with personal favourites that either defined a generation or refined a genre. I'll happily torch my savings again just to revisit some of these with fresh eyes.

This Day in Gaming 🎂

In retro news, I’m using a Fighter's Sword to slice a 33-shaped cake baked for The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, the SNES adventure that swallowed whole weekends. I played it side by side with my neighbour at launch, and it was the full heroic package: sweaty dungeon runs, maps doodled in exercise books, and whispered playground tips traded like state secrets. Pre-Internet adventuring could leave you stuck for days, but every breakthrough hit like pure Triforce magic. A replay of this is worth every rupee.

Nice Savings for Nintendo Switch

On Switch, The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom grabbed me thanks to its bold focus on Princess Zelda at the helm. It's a rarity to see her lead, and the design team clearly poured love into puzzles that rival the classics. Then there's Super Mario RPG, a time capsule born from Nintendo and Square's unlikely '90s collab that showed us plumbers could also thrive in turn-based combat.
  • Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom (-25%) - A$59.90 A fresh tale in the Zelda saga with puzzles and combat that mix old school vibes and new twists. A fine pick if Tears of the Kingdom left you hungry for more.
  • Super Mario Odyssey (-20%) - A$64 Nintendo’s most inventive 3D platformer in years, bursting with charm and collectables. An excellent entry point if you missed the plumber’s globe-hopping cap adventure.
  • Disney Illusion Island (-50%) - A$29.90 Hand-drawn art, co-op fun, and family-friendly charm. A whimsical platformer where Mickey and friends explore magical worlds, ideal for shared couch play.

Exciting Bargains for Xbox

For Xbox Series X, NBA 2K23 is the basketball sim that finally nailed the feel of the hardwood, complete with a Michael Jordan Challenge that hits you square in the nostalgia. Gotham Knights, though divisive, gave me a chance to explore Gotham with Bat-family members that rarely leave the shadows of Bruce.
  • FC 26 (-12%) - A$79 The latest EA Sports footy sim with roster updates and improved animations. A safe buy if you play year-round seasons or Ultimate Team.
  • Tiny Tina's: Next-Level Ed. (-91%) - A$9.90 Borderlands with spells and swords. A ridiculous bargain with chaotic shooter-looter fun plus expansions packed in.
  • Gotham Knights (-83%) - A$19 A Bat-family co-op brawler. Rough launch aside, patches have smoothed it out, and the story lets Nightwing, Batgirl, Robin, and Red Hood shine.
  • Sonic Origins Plus (-52%) - A$28.70 Classic Sonic titles bundled with extras like Amy as a playable character. Nostalgia-rich 2D speed runs with museum content for diehards.
  • NBA 2K23 (-95%) - A$5 One of the most content-heavy sports sims. Even if you ignore MyTeam, MyCareer and Jordan challenges make this worth a fiver.

Xbox One

  • Control (-71%) - A$17.20 Remedy’s paranormal shooter with shifting architecture and brutalist beauty. A trippy, story-rich experience that rewards exploration and experimentation.

Pure Scores for PlayStation

Over on PS5, Elden Ring is the open world masterpiece where FromSoftware let Miyazaki's dark fantasy blend with George R.R. Martin's myth-making. The result is a world that's as terrifying as it is rewarding. Armored Core VI saw the triumphant return of mechs, and the thrill of custom-building war machines never got old.
  • DualSense Midnight Black (-17%) - A$99 The coolest looking PS5 controller in sleek black. Adaptive triggers and haptics still set the bar for next-gen immersion.
  • Elden Ring (-44%) - A$49 FromSoftware’s open-world masterpiece with brutal bosses and lore penned by George R.R. Martin. A defining RPG of the decade.
  • Armored Core VI (-41%) - A$59 High-speed mech battles return in stylish fashion. Customise hulking robots and master twitchy combat from the creators of Elden Ring.
  • Stranger of Paradise FF Origin (-70%) - A$30.20 Team Ninja’s oddball Final Fantasy spin-off blends Soulslike combat with meme-worthy chaos. Not perfect, but fascinatingly messy.
  • One Piece Odyssey (-72%) - A$28 JRPG adventures with the Straw Hat Pirates, featuring an original story and turn-based battles. A treat for anime fans.

PS4

  • Lost Judgment (-65%) - A$35.10 A Yakuza spin-off mixing detective drama with street fights. Investigations, courtroom intrigue, and plenty of side shenanigans.
  • Far Cry 5 (-66%) - A$34.10 Open-world chaos in rural Montana. Take down a doomsday cult with co-op gunplay, explosions, and emergent madness.
  • Desperados III (-80%) - A$10.90 A slick modern tactics game set in the Wild West. Stealthy squad-based missions with multiple approaches and high replayability.

Lastly, PC shines with Hades, which redefined roguelikes with sharp writing and combat that kept me saying "just one more run" for hours. Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice honed my patience with its punishing swordplay, rewarding precision in a way few action games dare attempt.
  • Dave the Diver (-56%) - A$13.10 A quirky blend of deep-sea diving, sushi restaurant sim, and RPG progression. Surprisingly addictive indie darling of 2023.
