Hard to believe two decades have passed since I first slotted this Gen III remake of Red and Blue into my GBA and went on a spree of catching unsuspecting Kanto critters for, let’s be honest, glorified cockfighting. My standout memories come from the Sevii Islands, where Double Battles awaited and legendaries like Lugia and Ho-Oh turned the heat up even further. Glorious times.

Exciting Bargains for Xbox

Over on Xbox Series X, Resident Evil 4 shows Capcom's mastery at reinventing classics. The village fight remains one of gaming's greatest opening acts, even when replayed decades later. The Quarry, meanwhile, is basically a playable horror flick from Supermassive, and it is fun watching A-ish-list actors deliver B-movie dialogue that somehow works.

Lastly, PC has Hogwarts Legacy, which, politics aside, nails the Hogwarts fantasy I dreamed of since childhood. The other standout is Assetto Corsa Evo, where the mod community is so obsessive they've laser-scanned real tracks for accuracy. It's the closest I'll ever get to Bathurst without embarrassing myself in a real car.
