McDonald's Expands Drinks Menu

McDonald's is looking to (Mc)shake up its drink menu, as it is planning to add energy drinks and crafted sodas to its menu in the U.S. beginning next month.

First reported by The Wall Street Journal, and later confirmed by Reuters, McDonald's is gearing up to add Dirty Dr. Pepper and a Mango Pineapple Refresher in May, and energy drinks like a Red Bull Dragonberry Energizer in August.

Furthermore, the fast food chain is going straight at such competitors as Starbucks, Dutch Bros., Sonic, and others by pricing the beverages below similar offerings from those stores.

This is another move by McDonald's to focus on price-conscious diners who are "worn down by economic uncertainties," and it follows its introduction of menu items priced at $3 or less and a breakfast meal deal for $4 in the U.S.

The move by McDonald's to add these beverages appears to be a smaller play than creating a whole new chain called CosMc's that offered drinks and small bites like Churro Frappé, specialty lemonades, and the creamy Avocado Tomatillo sandwich. Unfortunately, CosMc's lasted less than two years.
