Hayley Atwell Explains That Trailer With Steve Rogers Holding a Baby

The Marvel star shed a little more light on the trailer that showed Steve Rogers holding a baby, and it only made things more confusing.

We got the chance to speak with Atwell after her appearance at San Diego Comic Con, where we asked her about that teaser and what it means for her and Rogers’ storyline.

“Whether that is reality or a dream or fantasy or a warning, who knows? But the image of that, the symbolism of that, shows the beating heart of this story is human relationships. The stakes could not be higher when the family is threatened or the family is in danger. …But it’s essentially about people loving each other.”

While that doesn’t exactly tell us anything definitive, it does introduce the possibility that this dreamlike domestic life we see Steve living could be just that — a dream. Is this a look into an alternate future for Cap, or is it reality?

One thing to note is a line from Victor Von Doom in a Doomsday clip shown off at the 2026 Hall H panel that same night, where the iconic comic villain said, “All of you... have stolen lives. But now, you must give them back."

A voiceover from Sue Storm in that same clip also noted that, "Victor was always the smartest guy. He used to be kind, he used to be caring. Everything he loved was taken from him. He was broken."

It’s seeming more and more likely that Doom’s motivation in this movie is to make his enemies suffer and lose the things they love most… and in this case, that could be Steve’s new family.

For now, things are left up in the air, and not much else was shown off as far as Doomsday goes at the Hall H panel. It seems Marvel is keeping things heavily under wrap until the Doomsday clock runs out on December 18, 2026.
